Okay!

Steel briefly interfaces with another Ultralink and sees its memories: alien world, alien ships, lasers going pew pew, and then what looks like new!Max Steel fighting Elementor-ish monster alien guys. The Max-ish guy goes into stealth mode and tears through the bad guys, and then the flashback's over. Anyway, the Big Question is: who was that first guy? (PRETTY SURE IT WAS JIM MCGRATH... YUP I'M GONNA CALL IT. JIM.)

Episode 19: Jason Naught strives for acceptance amongst his villain peers, and Max and Steel take a road trip.

Other thoughts:

Ooo, Naught, you shot the camera! So evil.

Max's car is still around.

Naught gets points for rigging the Dredd 'bots with explosive failsafes. He's no Psycho, but he's getting closer.

Dredd finally begins acting like an evil schemer re: his minions.

Some cool POV shots as Max switches modes during the battle.

Episode 20: Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want their talking plastic fish back.

Other thoughts:

Extroyer's hapless goons going fishing to relax from all that Max-induced stress? Amusing.

Like how N-Tek casually kills a bunch of fish... with missiles!

HELL YES FISHIE. Easily the most important character on the show. He sooooo deserves the little fish song/montage.

Toxzon's crazy. He and Woody Barkowski would totes be BFFs, and can someone please write that fic?

Max's suit has a radiation limit and will break down with sufficient exposure.

Once again, actual science takes a back seat to plot conveniences.

The Chekhov's Gun seagull is excellent.

Episode 21: Max faces expulsion, and Extroyer fixates on Steel.

Other thoughts:

A teacher doesn't have the authority to expel a student. That decision is made by the principal, with the approval of the school board (and their lawyers). Plus, you can't be expelled for excessive tardies/absences/poor grades. There needs to be an actual crime.

Max's science teacher is named Thornhill.

Max and Steel need to link up every eight hours, or Max explodes and Steel shuts down.

Worst science fair EVER. Dioramas and models are not science projects (they do not test a hypothesis), and an "invention" with no paper, display, etc., wouldn't be accepted.

Extroyer's goons are reliably fun.

"Mother of Mars!" and "Holy Toledo!" Reaaalllly, Forge. Many fails and facepalms from Mr. Ferrous this episode.

Max and Extroyer showing off their respective modes is eyerollingly macho, but Steel's snide "Ha ha! We have more!" saves it.

Episode 22: Even the Elementors don't like Elementors.

Other thoughts:

God, these guys are lame.

Steel can hypnotize people. As an aside, hypnotized Berto is kinda creepy.

Nice cameo by Extroyer's "gone fishin' " goons.

I get a real "I threw a ROCK at him!" vibe from (appropriately) the Earth Elementor.

So tired of this stupid subplot about seeeeeeeecrets. JUST. GET. IT. OVER. WITH.

Got behind a little bit... not that anyone cares. LOL

Episode 23: The enemy of N-Tek's enemy is their friend... kind of.

Other thoughts:

"Cannon mode"? That's a new one! Also, it's not very effective. (Max transforms into a huge, vaguely spheroid version of himself and blasts toward the bad guys.)

Ditto for "pulse mode", in which Steel fires a massive energy pulse.

Ditto for "clone mode". (The clones are just energy constructs.)

Max continues the canon tradition of being hell on the N-Tek motor pool.

Probably the 16-year-old is not the best agent for negotiating with a crazy supervillain? Just sayin'.

Toxzon's increasingly petty demands ("what's the thread count on this?") are good times.

Amazingly, N-Tek is surprised that Toxzon double-crosses them.

GOSH THAT NEW CLONE MODE SURE COMES IN HANDY. *eyeroll*

Image

Kat says 8 lines! She swings out from a jumpjet and shoots Elementor and rescues Max like a total badass!

Episode 24: Extroyer becomes a boy named Sue... as in,the T-Rex.

Other thoughts:

Extroyer's goons! The minions on this show are ten thousand times more fun than the baddies.

The cut to the traffic cop was excellent.

Sydney and Kirby are gunning for a Darwin Award here.

Extroyer's really taking a leap of faith with this fossil mosquito. How does he know it was suckin' on dinosaurs? (As an aside, Small Cretaceous Mammal!Extroyer would be hilarious.)

The E.T. reference was cute. The Raiders of the Lost Ark ref was superfluous.

Episode 25-26: Dredd is back... and he has a plan.

Other thoughts:

Elementors... still lame.

Centrifugal force? Oh no, show writers, you don't get to act like you know basic science concepts.

Ah, Dredd, you are acting like an evil genius at last. Though staging a massive assault and missile launch, thereby tricking N-Tek into using turbo energy to destroy... whatever it was they destroyed... would have been a mid-morning snack for John Dread.

Alien robot invasion! Yay!

Oh, and Steel is an alien robot. All the Ultralinks are programmed "to weaponize and take over their host". WOW BIG SECRET.

Makino is both a planet and the robot alien who rules it, apparently?

Haha! Totes called it: Jim McGrath was the first Max Steel. Additionally, he persuaded Steel to not be evil, which is the Makino default setting I guess.

Lord, the shaky-cam.

Berto's CYTRO budget must be immense.

Whoa whoa whoa! Show, are you shipping Kat and Jeff?

Molly to the rescue! Girlfriend has been busy over at THI.

*facepalm* Reverse polarity.

Gasp! You ARE shipping Kat and Jeff!

Forge is super casual for someone that just lost an arm.

Kat says 34 lines! She points out the food-based characterization of Jeff!
